When our family first opened the doors to Mi Casa Costa Mesa Restaurant in 1972, we started with the simple goal of serving good food and festive times to our friends and neighbors in Costa Mesa, CA. Over 40 years later, our delicious family recipes continue to distinguish us as one of the best Mexican restaurants in Orange County! Our laid-back atmosphere is widely known as a local “hot spot,” and from the moment you walk through the doors, you’ll understand why.
Mi Casa Mexican Restaurant’s rustic, red brick accents, weathered chairs, and beautiful dark wood accents provide a comfortable environment to relax and enjoy a meal with your loved ones. For a fun meet-up spot with your friends, our happy hour and spicy salsa will keep you coming back for more. Need to chill out with a refreshing post-work margarita? Take advantage of our weekly drink specials or browse our vast selection of enticing cocktails, beer, and wine! The bar also boasts an extensive list of 40-70 different varieties of tequila that features traditional favorites, as well as rare, unique and hard-to-find brands. We also have a great list of domestic and imported draft beer, and flat-screen televisions that are perfect for watching the game!
And for nights where you’re celebrating something special–our menu has just the thing! Our OC Mexican food includes simple classics like our crispy tacos overflowing with lettuce and cheese, cheese enchiladas, and burritos with re-fried beans and Spanish rice. We also offer scrumptious healthy options like our fresh romaine Fiesta Salad and grilled Mahi Tacos that are covered in tropical salsa and served with delicious sauteed vegetables that are sure to impress your taste buds! Our Rancho Santa Margarita location is one of the few Orange Country restaurants with private patio, so whether your party is made of two or twenty-five, everyone will leave satisfied!

The Mi Casa Story
Mi Casa Restaurant in Costa Mesa, CA was opened in 1972 by the late Barrie Moore. The restaurant is currently owned and operated by 3rd Generation family member Ryan Moore and looks and feels much the same as when it opened nearly 40 years ago!
Mi Casa offers a relaxed casual setting for locals to dine with relatives and friends because we think of customers as part of our family… Mi Casa es Su Casa.
Building the Mi Casa Tradition
1956 – Mi Casa founder, Barrie Moore, opened Taco Tio in San Gabriel Valley. Taco Tio was the first “Taco Drive-In” in the Los Angeles area and over the years grew to 8 locations.
1957 – Taco Tio expanded to Santa Ana and became the first Taco Drive-In Restaurant in Orange County too!
1972 – Barrie Moore opened the first Mi Casa Restaurant on 17th Street in Costa Mesa with a bright blue iconic door. The restaurant used to be a Sizzler Steakhouse, and you can still reminisce of the wagon wheel chandeliers and the cattle iron branding symbols on the dining room tables.
1972 – Since day 1, Jose Perez was the Head Chef at Mi Casa. He retired in 2004, but still visits Mi Casa to enjoy our entrees and sauces that were originally his mom’s recipes.
1976 – Barrie Moore opened a second Mi Casa Restaurant at the Balboa Inn, just steps away from the ocean on Main Street on the Balboa peninsula.
1980 – The original Moore Family eating at Mi Casa Restaurant.
1984 – LA Laker Star, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, bought the Balboa Inn and the Mi Casa Balboa location was closed.
1986 – President George W. Bush Sr. dined at Mi Casa. He enjoyed the #12 (Taco, Enchilada, and Chili Relleno, rice and beans and 2 Tecates). Over the years, many celebrities have dined at Mi Casa, including Tony Hawk, Bruce Willis, Nikki Sixx, Don Drysdale, Barry Goldwater, John Dean, Ted McGinley, Joe Torre, Desi Arnez, John Mitchell, Diane Keaton, Lindsey Davenport, Dennis Rodman, Larry H. Parker, John Wayne, Mickey Mantle, Billy Martin, Jim Rome, Pat Haden, Kelly McGill’s, Mamie Van Doren, Barbara Streisand, John Peters, and many more.
2003 – Barrie Moore past away at age 85. His sons, Rick and Dennis Moore, took over the operations of the family business
2004 – Mi Casa’s first commercial was produced and filmed at Triangle Square, starring friends David Beam, Andy Schwartz, James “Ring” Hocking, several bar customers, and the waitress staff.
2008 – ”Mi Casa Cares” annual charity event begins to collect items and support troops abroad.
2009 – Ryan Moore and Rick Moore founded Mi Casa Foods Inc. with long-time customer and fan, Rick Keene. They started bottling and selling the restaurants famous salsa across the southwest in grocery stores and online at www.micasafoodsinc.com.
2010 – Dennis Moore passed away at his residence in Newport Beach at the age of 68.
2010 – Rick Moore sells the restaurant to his son Ryan Moore. Rick is enjoying retirement and spending more time with his wife Lee and his two Boxer dogs, Gracie and Lindy. Occasionally he delivers the Mi Casa Foods Inc. bottled salsa to local grocery stores and stops in the restaurant often to visit with customers and friends.
2011 – Mi Casa “Burro Room Bar” get’s a makeover. Draft beer is added and the bar is widened with additional high-top tables and booth seating.
2012 – 3rd Generation Owner, Ryan Moore, opens 2nd location in Rancho Santa Margarita
